Translucent, colored-vinyl records have been made
for decades, although they are fairly rare. The first I saw
was lying on the "take-it-if-you-want-it" table at an album-
oriented rock station (WZMF) I worked at in 1977. The LP
was a promotional for the movie The Deep. Please see below.
At the time, my primary interest was Jacqueline Bissett,
but when I slid the vinyl out of the sleeve, and it turned out
to be ocean blue, I was taken by its unusual appearance.
It immediately struck me that it would look great lighted from behind.
Finally, thirty years later, I built a display and hung it on the wall.
Enough people commented on how cool it is that I set out to
find more colored vinyl, to create more displays, and to sell them.
Hence, Vinylumination.
